Julian McMahon, renowned for his roles in the groundbreaking FX series “Nip/Tuck” and as Dr. Doom in the early 2000s “Fantastic Four” films, has died at the age of 56. The news was shared through a statement on the official “Nip/Tuck” Facebook page, with further confirmation from his wife, Kelly McMahon, who told Deadline on Friday that he “died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer.”
In “Nip/Tuck,” McMahon portrayed one of two lead plastic surgeons alongside Dylan Walsh. The series, known for its exploration of ethics in cosmetic surgery, aired for six seasons from 2003 to 2010, earning 18 Primetime Emmy nominations and winning an award for outstanding prosthetic makeup.
Simultaneously, McMahon took on the role of Dr. Victor Von Doom in the 2005 and 2007 “Fantastic Four” films, featuring co-stars Jessica Alba and Chris Evans. Dr. Doom is slated to be portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in the forthcoming “Avengers: Doomsday.”
Beyond these iconic roles, McMahon’s impressive career included memorable performances in “Charmed” and “Profiler.” Recently, he was seen in “FBI: Most Wanted” as well as Netflix’s “The Residence.” His career, which began in the late 1980s, continued up until recently, with a role in the upcoming Nicolas Cage film “The Surfer,” set to release this summer.
