The anticipation surrounding the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is building, as reports suggest it will debut later this year featuring significant advancements. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, the new model is expected to integrate satellite connectivity, enabling users to send text messages even when Wi-Fi and cellular services are unavailable, all without needing an iPhone.
Additionally, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is rumored to include a specific version of 5G designed for smartwatches, while the current Ultra models only support LTE.
The preceding Apple Watch Ultra 2 launched with a new black titanium case option, but there have been no hardware updates to the Ultra model since 2023.
Among the other anticipated enhancements for the Ultra 3 are the inclusion of an S10 chip or a more advanced variant, faster charging capabilities, and a wide-angle OLED display that promises improved brightness at angles and a higher refresh rate for the always-on display feature. Many of these updates were rolled out with the Apple Watch Series 10 last year.
In a previous update from March, Gurman indicated that Apple is still facing challenges with developing a blood pressure monitoring feature for the Apple Watch, leaving its availability uncertain ahead of the Ultra 3’s anticipated launch in just over two months.
