The Phoenix Suns’ recent trade of 14-time All-Star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets may soon involve additional teams, according to a report by Fred Katz of The Athletic. Katz indicated on Wednesday that discussions are underway to expand the deal to include a record-setting seven teams in total.

While a formal agreement has yet to be reached, Katz noted that the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Minnesota Timberwolves are among the teams engaged in trade talks. As part of this potential deal, the Hawks are expected to send Clint Capela to the Rockets in a sign-and-trade arrangement.

Katz mentioned that several high-profile players, including Durant, Capela, Dillon Brooks, and Jalen Green, have been tentatively agreed upon for this extensive trade, yet no official confirmations have been made.

This proposed trade could break the previous NBA record for the most teams involved in a single trade, which was set in 2024 when the Golden State Warriors traded Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in a six-team deal.

In terms of timeline, ESPN’s Shams Charania originally reported on June 22 that Durant was traded to the Rockets in exchange for Green, Brooks, the Rockets’ No. 10 overall pick, and five second-round picks. This trade was later confirmed by Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro. However, the deal will not be finalized until July 6.

In the 2025 NBA Draft, the Rockets, acting on behalf of the Suns, selected Duke center Khaman Maluach with the No. 10 pick.
