Mariah May, a former AEW Women’s World Champion who recently debuted in WWE NXT as Blake Monroe, may soon undergo a character transformation. According to a report from Fightful Select, discussions regarding a potential heel turn for Monroe are already underway within the NXT environment.
While Fightful did not specify the timeline for Monroe’s shift in villainy, they indicated that it could occur in the near future. The reasoning behind this early transition for the newly signed wrestler has not been disclosed.
In her recent appearance on NXT, Monroe teamed up with fellow babyface Jordynne Grace. General Manager Ava announced that they will compete against NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne, who targeted Monroe shortly after her arrival, and Jayne’s Fatal Influence stablemate Fallon Henley at the upcoming Great American Bash on Saturday. This match precedes Grace’s title challenge against Jayne at Evolution 2 on Sunday. Currently, Monroe does not have a scheduled match for Evolution and has not been included in the battle royal planned for the event.
Monroe burst onto the NXT scene just days after her AEW contract ended and she was removed from the AEW roster. Her surprising debut on June 3 at the WWE Performance Center made a significant impact, as she quickly established herself within the women’s division. Initially presented as a babyface, Monroe faced challenges, including being put through a table by a heel faction. Prior to joining WWE, she wrapped up her AEW career in March with a Hollywood Ending match against “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s title, performing as a heel.
